    The exhibitions Urgent Conversations: Athens–Antwerp and Urgent Conversations: Antwerp – Athens are a collaboration between EMST and M HKA, a theoretical and visual dialogue, based on works from the collections of both museums, which includes more than 70 works structured in 22 topics.

    "In the background of many compositions, one notices how using fresh, weighty colors, Wout Vercammen in fact pokes ridicule at the painterly enthusiasm of recent years: 'Hefty Malerei', graffiti, patterning painting and so on.  Elsewhere we see handprints that remind one of X-rays, or words on a red pink wall with gauze in front.  Wout Vercammen writes words or sentences across the composition.  For that matter, he once studied typography.  Letters, words and laconic statements are frequent elements in his work."

    "In de achtergronden van vele komposities merkt men hoe Wout Vercammen met frisse, hevige kleuren het schildersentoesiasme van de jongste jaren in feite ridikulizeert: Heftige Malerei, graffiti, patterning painting en dies meer. Elders ziet men handafdrukken die aan röntgenopnamen herinneren, of woorden op een roderoze muur met daarvoor een gaas. Woorden of zinnen schrijft Wout Vercammen over de kompositie. Hij deed trouwens typografische studies. Lettertekens, woorden en lakonische zinnen neemt hij frekwent in zijn werk op."
